Historie Renault 17 Gordini
The RS17 is a major step forward compared to the team's 2016 car, which was essentially the same as the Lotus car from 2015. Despite these changes, the car's chassis appears to have retained its basic aerodynamic shape as the team focused to iron out the flexibility issues and allowing more space for the front suspension elements.

I bought a new 1972 Renault R-17 Gordini in 1973 and had great luck with it. I raced it at Riverside international Raceway in 1973 (before Riverside closed) in a SCCA-sanctioned Open (high-speed) Slalom and took 1st Place in 'Showroom Stock, Class L'. Fun car to drive - and turned heads (at the time).

SUMMER IN R17 Renault 17 was Renault's first ever front-wheel drive coupé. Renault 17 truly stood out, most notably with its unique dashboard with four visors over the dials on the early versions. Another original feature was the iconic "wing seats", added to the restyled 1976 generation.

iirc the earlier R&T test was of both the 15 and 17. The test itself was not so negative, but a test of, iirc, a Mazda RX2 a month or two later was raving about the Mazda's excellent ergonomics and comparing it to the unnamed other car that was undoubtedly the Renault, with references to the "D-cup falsies" over the instruments that produced so many reflections the instruments were.

This 1979 Renault R17 Gordini is the product of a recent ground up restoration after being abandoned for 15 years. It has been completely stripped, and everything has been replaced or restored to original spec, making this the closest thing you will find to a brand new Renault in the US.
